You know what they say about plans, right? They are made to be broken... We spent over ten hours today getting to and from the wall, climbing part of the wall, and eating lunch at the wall. We never made it to the Summer Palace. That's the one site we've never visited in the trips we've made to China. But, the traffic was HORRIBLE and we were so tired from jet lag that we made the executive decision to scrap the Summer Palace. Also, we went with several nannies and children from Harmony House.
One little boy had never been there. He has leg braces and doesn't walk well, but Lily, our hostess and his foster mom, challenged him to walk up to the first tower today. She walked behind him and didn't pick him up when he fell or wobbled. And he did make it all by himself up to the first tower! Emmie says that he is the hero of the Great Wall and I would have to agree! Here he is as he is meeting us for lunch.
It was nice to have our Chinese children all together on the Great Wall.
Ray can't stand heights. I always wondered what in the world made him go into elevators???? He's trying his best to stand upright, but it's not working! He didn't last too long on the wall.
The rest of us made it to the third tower. Well, except Emmie who powered it all the way up to the fifth tower! And beat us down, to boot!
The Harmony House kids who made it to the third tower. It's super steep up there. And the steps are extremely uneven. No OSHA regulations here, that's for sure!
